Just some musings from me in this hot and sunny weather on solar capture methods and getting passive income from the sun!😀
I can only recommend to people to install Solar on their roofs as much as they can afford and are allowed by their local Grid company! Go big and reap the rewards and buy a battery or two or three!
Don’t go below 20kw on batteries as you need it for overnight and in the winter!
Go for 10-13kw in solar install because that is what they usually allow you to do!
We got over £1100 this quarter alone for the FIT TARIFF (not available anymore) on 4kw solar install from 2011, but export tariffs still pay you £0.15 per kWh! AND the saving you are making on your electric bill. Even our new West facing installation from 2023 saves us a lot and generates enough to fill one EV BATTERY car per day!
We are just hampered by our grid capacity to replace our gas boiler and we need to upgrade our one phase to three phases in the next few years! Maybe I relinquish my private pension money after all?
Also the savings on CO2 goes into the thousands of kgs !
Very happy with the sunny weather-just in case anybody is moaning about the heat!😂
There are good sources of information on YouTube:
EVMAN, MR EV, Everything Electric Show, electriccarvirgin.com (my own 😀)
Don’t sign up with the first company that comes your way.Get good recommendations and three quotes and also compare Solar tech!
There are now Solar panels that have two sides to them and there are panels that are optimised for low lighting levels for duller parts of U.K. like Scotland or the North. There are panels that can installed as fence panels or in your garden free standing and there are panels that have 450watts and therefore you need less of them if you have a small roof! Also you can them integrated in your roof or even roof tiles that capture solar are not that far off!
Best you go to Everything Electric Show Farnborough next October and compare them from different manufacturers /people.
However you have to stay in your house for another 8-10 years minimum to get the benefits of this investment.
As you can see from the photos, we are only really one full year in with our solar and battery production but this year looks like a bumper year and will surpass all stats from last year.Sonwe’ll see in January 2026 what we got! Watch this space!
